Do you want to ditch the chemicals and switch to an all natural fragrance? If so, you may realize that plant based scents – like essential oils and hydrosols – don’t have the same ‘staying power’ as chemical scents. That’s because plants, of course, don’t have toxic chemicals like styrene to hold that fragrance. Styrene is a known carcinogen that has recently been in the news in various places. Do your research. Then ditch and switch to scents like essential oils and hydrosols.

Of course, not all essential oils are equal. These tiny bottles have become big business and in such, there are numerous manufacturers out there that claim 100% natural purity. It isn’t always the case, my friends. Because essential oils are not regulated, any company can label any of their bottles “100% pure oil” even if it only contains 1% essential oil and the rest are chemical fillers. Those companies are still technically selling 100% essential oil… it’s just diluted down with fillers, chemicals and additional non-essential oils.

You get what you pay for. That’s all I’m going to say.

So now that you’re on board with plant juices for your daily scent – how do you make it last?

1. Diffuser Bracelet. This simple braided wrap took me about 5 minutes to make and it prolongs the scent of essential oils for the entire day. Because essential oils are volatile, they easily disperse into the air and absorb into your body. Which is good! You want those beneficial properties absorbed. But that also means, the scent is absorbed as well. By placing a few drops on a a diffuser bracelet, the oils can be more slowing absorbed and dispersed, thus making the scent last all day.

How to make a diffuser bracelet:

• Grab your favorite colored faux leather cord (like these here)
• Snag some fun metal details as shown above (get those here or these sweet monogram charms here)
• Measure once around your wrist + 3-4 inch for a single wrap, twice for a double, etc. When it’s braided it will be slightly shorter so the extra inches ensure you won’t make it too small.
• Snip 1 strand the measure wrist length and a 2nd strand twice as long as the 1st. Fold the long strand in half to create a small loop (this will be your “clasp”). Tape loop and additional strand ends firmly to a table and begin your braid. Randomly add in a charm here or there until your finished. Fit the braid around your wrist to make sure you like the length. Tie the end of your braided strands into a large knot and slip the loop you made at the beginning over the knot. This will create your bracelet!
• To Diffuse: drop 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil onto the bracelet and let it soak in for a moment. Wrap your bracelet around your wrist and enjoy your scent throughout the day!
